Local Volunteers Serving in Florida Disaster Response August 16, 2004
Nearly 50 locally trained disaster volunteers are lending a hand and a listening ear in the American Red Cross response to Hurricane Charley, Frances and Tropical Storm Bonnie.
Volunteers from the Greater Ozarks Chapter (Springfield MO) are feeding responders and victims of these disasters. A few volunteers are taking calls in the Red Cross call center, making sure families can get in touch with loved ones and find out how the Red Cross can help victims of Bonnie and Charley in the recovery process. The American Red Cross depends on a network of volunteers available from various Red Cross chapters across the country. Your Red Cross is part of this network. At a moments notice, the Greater Ozarks Chapter is able to send out volunteers to respond to disasters like those in Florida.
All American Red Cross disaster assistance is free, made possible by voluntary donations of time and money from the American people. You can help the victims of Tropical Storm Bonnie and Hurricane Charley and thousands of other disasters across the country each year by making a financial gift to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund, which enables the Red Cross to provide shelter, food, counseling and other assistance to those in need. Call 1-800-HELP NOW or 1-800-257-7575 (Spanish). Contributions to the Disaster Relief Fund may be sent to your local American Red Cross chapter or to the American Red Cross, P. O. Box 37243, Washington, DC 20013. Internet users can make a secure online contribution by visiting www.redcross.org.
