Everyday Heroes Breakfast  < Back

Nearly 500 people attended the 2nd annual Everyday Heroes Breakfast on Tuesday, March 19th at University Plaza Convention Center.

Heroes were honored in 12 categories for their selfless and courageous acts. Many worthy candidates were nominated through more than 140 nominations. The selection committee comprised of eight community leaders worked very hard to choose heroes for recognition. The goal of this event is to appreciate people who step forward to help others and foster acts of heroism by focusing on the positive aspects of our communities.

KY3 anchorwoman Cristina King was a delightful emcee for the second year. The Springfield Fire Department Colorguard graciously presented our colors, and Springfield Mayor Tom Carlson proclaimed March as Red Cross month. Video segments produced by our partner KY3 explained each heros good deed preceding presentations of plaques by award sponsors.

This event was created out of the desire to host an event that relates to the work of the American Red Cross-teaching people to save lives. Trained and dedicated Red Cross volunteers fulfill the mission of the American Red Cross everyday by providing relief to disaster victims and helping people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies.
