Hero Criteria
Adult Hero: The nominee is 21 years of age or older and is associated with an extraordinary act. The
incident may involve any event that made a real difference in a community through kindness, courage
and unselfishness in a time of need.
Woodruff - Community Justice/Law Enforcement: The nominee is a member of the law enforcement
community or has distinguished himself/herself through exceptional service, achievement and contribution
and/or responded to an incident or performed an extraordinary act of courage or kindness. The incident
does not have to be related to the use of skills directly associated with the job, and may have occurred
on or off duty.
Education Hero: The nominee is an educator who makes a difference in youth or adult students� lives by
inspiring them to attain (and exceed) their goals.
Family Hero: The nominee is an individual who selflessly contributes to the lives of those in the immediate
family unit by putting his or her needs aside.
Firefighter Hero: The nominee is a paid or volunteer firefighter who does not have to be on duty at the
time of the incident. The incident may or may not be related to a firefighting incident, CPR or the use of
skills associated directly with the job of fighting fires.
Industrial Safety Hero: The nominee is an individual who prevented or responded to a serious accident or
increased the level of safety in an industrial setting.
Lifetime Achievement Hero: The nominee is known in his/her community by living as a role model of
service and/or volunteerism. This is the only award offered at the Everyday Heroes Breakfast that does
not require a specific incident within a set time frame.
Medical/Rescue Hero: The nominee is a medical professional who is associated with a medical related
rescue or other act of extraordinary kindness. The incident does not necessarily have to be associated
with a medical emergency and may have occurred on or off duty.
Military Hero: The nominee is an active or reserve military person who contributes to the betterment of
his/her unit. By example, this individual is a role model who encourages others to uphold and support all
military ideals.
Youth Hero: The nominee is under 21 of age and is associated with an extraordinary act. The incident may
involve any event that made a real difference in a community through kindness, courage and unselfishness
in a time of need.
