AmeriCorps*VISTA Member/Resource Development Specialist

Help Missouri�s rural communities prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies while earning money for your education. The American Red Cross in Missouri is looking for AmeriCorps*VISTA members to enhance volunteer management systems, improve cooperation among diverse agencies in rural counties, and develop resources to meet identified needs. Position Title: AmeriCorps*VISTA Resource Development Specialist- Disaster

Sponsor Name: American Red Cross in Missouri

Term of Employment: 12 months (minimum 40 hours per week)

Job Location: Various Red Cross chapters in Missouri

Responsibilities:
� Develop sustainable systems for recruiting, managing, training and retaining Red Cross volunteers in remote areas of the state.
� Maintain and add to a local referral and resource list for each assigned county for use in helping people in need, especially after a disaster.
� Coordinate at least one disaster mitigation project in a community with high levels of disaster risk and/or vulnerability.
� Develop collaborations that will enhance service to clients in assigned counties and fill gaps in coverage to our most vulnerable clients.
� Advocate for solutions to challenges in serving service delivery areas vulnerable populations and ensuring quality service to clients there.
� Assist in responding to disasters as necessary.

Requirements:
� Must be at least 18 years old and have valid driver�s license.
� High school diploma or GED required, college degree and/or extensive life experience preferred.
� Attention to detail, good to excellent communication skills and very good interpersonal skills required.
� Desire to make a difference in the lives of people in rural communities.
� Ability to adapt quickly to stressful situations and manage several projects at once.
� Ability to quickly learn and work within established Red Cross policies and procedures.
� Must be self-starter and able to work independently using good judgement and critical thinking in self-reliant circumstances.
� Computer skills.
� Commitment of one year to community service.

� Monthly living allowance of $740 / month
� Health insurance.
� $1,200 cash award when 12-month term is completed or $4,725 educational award
� Child care allowance of up to $300/month (subject to meeting income guidelines).
