The Greater Ozarks Chapter of the American Red Cross was chartered in 1917. We serve 23 counties, including Barry, Barton, Cedar, Christian, Dade, Dallas, Douglas, Greene, Hickory, Howell, Jasper, Laclede, Lawrence, McDonald, Newton, Ozark, Polk, St. Clair, Stone, Taney, Vernon, Webster, and Wright counties. Our Headquarters is located in Springfield, MO with additional offices in Joplin, Lebanon, Nevada and West Plains.

As a local chapter we are self-sustaining, maintained through local donations of time and money. The American Red Cross is not a government agency. It is, however, chartered by Congress, with the mandate to maintain a national and international system of disaster relief and to provide emergency communications between members of the Armed Forces and their families. Although we function independently of the government, we do work closely with local, state and federal government agencies such as the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) in times of major crisis, and have specific duties assigned in the National Response Plan which is activated during federally declared disasters.

We are committed to saving lives and easing suffering. Our chapter serves humanity by providing relief to victims of disaster, communication and social services to U.S. veterans, military personnel and their families, readiness and response training such as First Aid, CPR/AED, Preventing Disease Transmission, Mass Care, Sheltering and Disaster Preparedness.

Mission Statement
The American Red Cross, a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers and guided by its Congressional Charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement, will provide relief to victims of disasters and help people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
