ABOUT DISASTER RELIEF
Our
Greater Ozarks Chapter maintains a Disaster
Action Team available 24 hours a day, 365 days
a year to respond to disasters. Each year,
we assist victims of more than 270 home fires
and other disasters.
All Red Cross assistance is given free of charge, made possible by the generous
contribution of people's time, money, and skills.
Red Cross disaster relief focuses on meeting people's immediate
emergency disaster-caused needs. When a disaster threatens
or strikes, the Red Cross provides shelter,
food, and health and mental health services to address basic human needs. In
addition to these services, the Red Cross disaster relief assistance is given
to individuals and families affected by disaster to enable them to resume their
normal daily activities. The Red Cross feeds disaster victims and emergency
workers, handles inquiries from concerned family members outside
the disaster area, provides
blood and blood products, and helps those affected by disaster to access other
available resources.
NATIONAL DISASTERS
Our local Red Cross volunteer and paid staff often serve on
relief operations for major national disasters. This improves
their training and skills,
and assures that Red Cross workers will be available to our community should
a major disaster occur here.
DISASTER PREPAREDNESS
The Red Cross works the year round with city, county and state
emergency management agencies to facilitate disaster preparedness
and planning. Ongoing efforts continue
to recruit and train volunteers, and secure resources for shelter, communications
and supplies.
